WhatsApp users can now access Digilocker services via MyGov Helpdesk

In a move to enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of government services, MyGov announced on Monday that citizens can now utilize the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp to access the Digilocker service. As a key component of the Digital India initiative, DigiLocker aims to bolster the ‘digital empowerment’ of individuals by granting access to authentic digital documents stored in their digital document wallet. Documents issued through the DigiLocker system hold equivalent status to their original physical counterparts.

The release stated, “Citizens can now access Digilocker services on the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp… Digilocker will be an important citizen service offered by MyGov on WhatsApp to help promote digital inclusion and efficient governance.” This service includes activities such as creating and authenticating Digilocker accounts, downloading documents like PAN cards, driving licenses, and vehicle registration certificates directly through WhatsApp. The MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp is a significant initiative to ensure that governance and government services are easily accessible to citizens.

With the introduction of services like Digilocker, the MyGov chatbot on WhatsApp aims to establish a comprehensive administrative support system, enabling citizens to access resources and essential services with digital inclusivity.

“The new service will enable citizens to access the following documents with ease and convenience, from the safety of their homes… PAN card, Driving License, CBSE Class X Passing Certificate, Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance Policy – Two Wheeler, Class X Marksheet, Class XII Marksheet, Insurance Policy Document (Life and Non-life available on Digilocker),” the announcement detailed.

WhatsApp users across the country can access the chatbot by sending ‘Namaste,’ ‘Hi,’ or ‘Digilocker’ to the WhatsApp number +91 9013151515. MyGov CEO Abhishek Singh expressed confidence that providing Digilocker services on WhatsApp would digitally empower millions by facilitating easy access to authentic documents and information directly from their phones. Shivnath Thukral, Director – Public Policy, WhatsApp, emphasized that integrating Digilocker services into the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp is a significant step toward scaling up the Digital India vision and creating a digitally empowered nation.
